At Home Teeth Whitening - An Affordable Option
There was a time not too long ago when a person who wanted his teeth whitened had to incur the time and expense of a visit to the dentist’s office for a professional teeth whitening treatment.
That day is over, however. Society’s growing fixation with appearances has fueled the availability of a growing number of at home teeth whitening products for those wanting a more affordable option.

At home teeth whitening products designed for personal use include brush-on gels, sprays, whitening toothpastes, and whitening strips. These products offer convenience, ease of use, and affordability, but there are limits to their effectiveness. Much more effective than any of these products is a teeth whitening kit.
Teeth whitening kits come in two strengths: prescription and over-the-counter. Though somewhat more expensive, the prescription strength whitening kit is probably the best at home teeth whitening option, and it definitely yields the best results.
The prescription strength teeth whitening kit must be obtained from your dentist and used with his guidance and supervision. It typically contains mouth trays that are to be filled with a peroxide based whitening gel and then placed on the teeth. Applications can last up to several hours and will need to be repeated numerous times over a one or two week interval, which is a serious drawback associated with at home teeth whitening kits.
Although safe and effective most of the time, another drawback to using at home teeth whitening kits is that they are potentially unsafe and not recommended for those who do not already have healthy teeth or gums. A visit to the dentist’s office for an examination is in order before you start any home teeth whitening treatment. Failure to do so may result in painful - and even permanent - damage to both your teeth and your gums.
The primary issue for most people who desire whiter teeth and to brighten their smiles is that of affordability: how much does it cost? Well, professional teeth whitening in a dental office can be quite expensive, costing as much as a thousand dollars if it is a laser whitening treatment. Considering that at home teeth whitening kits cost as little as $30, it’s no wonder that, despite its drawbacks, it is steadily increasing in popularity today.
